New Orleans Mission Trip 2010 - Sunday, July 11

Hi Everyone,

Day 2 in New Orleans is complete and it was another busy day. During worship at Parkway, the scripture reading was the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the person giving the sermon posed the question, "Who is your neighbor?" Gordon Yu, who wrote today's reflection has been doing an excellent job of being a neighbor to those natives of New Orleans who we've met, always being one of the first of our group to introduce himself.

It's truly a blessing to be working with such an amazing group of youth and adults here in New Orleans. Hope things are going well back home!

In Christ,

Hi. How are you all? Our time in New Orleans has been excellent. I really enjoyed taking in the sites and meeting the nice people of New Orleans. The downside of New Orleans is that it is really hot and humid with a lot of bugs. The other day we went to eat beignets and they were delicious. It was like a fried doughnut with powder sugar. Today, we went to three different churches and I met a lot of nice people in all three. They’re really friendly and welcoming. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy more of the local food and see more of the sites that New Orleans has to offer.

Onto the work that we have been doing, we went to a church and helped organize, pack up, and transfer donated items for the homeless to another church. Today, some of us helped organize and fold all the clothes that were donated. I learned that it takes a lot of work to fold and organize clothes so maybe I will do that more often at home instead of my parents doing it after nagging me for days about it. Still, I thought it was a great experience and I feel good knowing that I helped the less fortunate. Tomorrow, we plan to begin our week long project of rebuilding a house for someone whose house was devastated by the hurricane. Hopefully we will be able to make a lot of good progress on the house.
